Motion and Scene Understanding with an Event Camera

On April 11, 2025, the Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes (GTI) hosted the sixth seminar of the "Speaking in the Key of Science" series, a continuing initiative that highlights groundbreaking research in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and Extended Reality (XR).

The seminar, titled "Motion and Scene Understanding with an Event Camera", featured Guillermo Gallego, Professor at TU Berlin and member of the Einstein Center Digital Future. During the session, Guillermo presented the most recent findings from the Robotic Interactive Perception Lab, emphasizing the power of event cameras—advanced vision sensors capable of detecting rapid scene changes with ultra-low latency.

The seminar addressed several important themes:

        • How to process data from event cameras
        • Real-world applications such as optical flow estimation, 3D reconstruction, and wildlife monitoring
        • Breakthroughs and open challenges in robotic scene understanding

Following his first seminar held on Wednesday, April 9, this second session sparked even greater interest among attendees, further establishing the series as a benchmark in the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge.
