International Summer School on eXtended Reality Technology and eXperience
The second edition of the International Summer School on Extended Reality Technology and Experience (XRTX) was held from June 8-11, 2024, hosted at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and was an enriching experience for its 29 participants from 7 different countries.
The opening day began with Pablo Cesar's keynote on volumetric videoconferencing, followed by a creative design session with Elena Márquez. In the afternoon, Sandra Malpica and Telmo Zarraonandia led the first practical session. The day culminated with an innovative archery activity, both virtual and real.
The second day began with a talk by Anthony Steed on strategies for designing and evaluating XR experiences, followed by a presentation by Manuela Chessa on XR in healthcare, serious games and exergames. This was followed by the first poster session and a tutorial on Ubiq by Sebastian Friston.
The third day started with Qi Sun's talk entitled "Towards Human-Centered XR: Bridging Cognition and Computation” and continued with a session by Diego Gutierrez on improving user experience in VR. The second poster and demo session were followed by the final hands-on session of the event.
The final day included an industry session with a talk by Gloria Touchard from Nokia and the last keynote by Marianna Obrist, who highlighted the power of smell in XR experiences. The presentation of the developed projects concluded this intense and fruitful edition of the XRTX Summer School.
